Specifically, a beautiful Japanese mountain leech.
I would move to Japan JUST to be able to go hiking and come back with these and keep them in a terrarium and breed them and nurture them.
Waterbears can go without food or water for more than a decade. They can survive temperatures from zero to above the boiling point of water, pressure six times stronger than the deepest ocean trench, radiation hundreds of times higher than the fatal dose for a human, and the vacuum of space.
They aren’t able to just survive “zero”… they’re able to survive -273 degrees Celsius. Why not any colder? Another half degree colder would be absolute zero, which would turn the water bear (and anything else) into a completely different state of matter that does stuff that only quantum particles do! So the water bear doesn’t mind the cold, but the atoms can’t handle it.
Dad found this beautiful/angry eastern box turtle in our yard. They may walk slow, but they can completely close up their shell very quickly when someone is taking their picture! Paparazzi: the box turtle’s natural enemy.
I found an unbroken robin’s egg yesterday. It made me really happy and sad at the same time.
This guy is 75% elated and 25% scared stiff!
Kermode Bear (Spirit Bear) - In a moss-draped rain forest in British Columbia, towering red cedars live a thousand years, and black bears are born with white fur. Photographs by Paul Nicklen.
I LOVE BEARS.
I took this picture behind my house. I’m pretty stoked when my phone takes decent pics.
