Project Nim, a 2001 documentary about the chimpanzee who a group of (sort-of) scientists attempted to raise as a human in the 1970s, is a film that I think everyone should see.
From Wikipedia:
A kodama (木魂) is a spirit from Japanese folklore, which is believed to live in certain trees. Cutting down a tree which houses a kodama is thought to bring misfortune.
Kodama appear in the animated film Princess Mononoke. Near the end, when the trees begin to die, kodama can be seen falling from the air and dissolving on the ground.
This scene evokes such sorrow.
This is an amazing question.
The Irish song “Macushla,” which was written in 1910 and performed by John McCormack in 1911.
Macushla! Macushla!
Your red lips are saying
That death is a dream,
And love is for aye,
Then awaken, Macushla,
Awake from your dreaming,
My blue-eyed Macushla,
Awaken to stay.

“True Love Will Find You In The End”—Daniel Johnston
One of the truly tragic figures in the music world. However, he still seems to be producing a lot of art and music… with the help of friends and fans, and despite his mental demons.

I broke up with my (now ex) boyfriend Daniel. We knew we were very different but we decided to be adventurous and made it work for six months. I still have an immense amount of respect and admiration for him, but I now feel that our differences clash more than they complement. I’m glad we tried—it was a nice six months. I hope he’s doing okay.
I guess I won’t go into too much detail… nobody likes a Debbie Downer. Just a little update on what’s going on in my life.
RIP: Adam “MCA” Yauch, at 48: Adam “MCA” Yauch, who co-founded pioneering hip-hop group the Beastie Boys with Mike “Mike D” Diamond and Adam “Ad-Rock” Horowitz in 1979, has died. He was 48.
Yauch had been in treatment for cancer since 2009, when doctors discovered a tumor in his salivary gland. In addition to the Beastie Boys, Yauch was heavily involved in the Free Tibet movement and co-organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts in th ’90s.

Today I walked by a dead duck in the middle of the street in a residential area near campus. I’ve only seen ducks in Bowling Green twice. It made me really, really sad.
Une Fleur de Chanel
In 2005 I asked my dad to grab me a sample of Chanel Chance while he was at the mall, but the salesperson only had samples of Une Fleur de Chanel. I kind of liked it but thought it was too mature for me, and the unfinished sample vial sat in my jewelry box for seven years until I tried a few sprays yesterday.

It is incredible. Utterly feminine. Beautiful. The most intoxicating, smooth, mouthwatering (yes, mouthwatering) floral I’ve ever smelled. It’s like an ivory brocade wedding gown shining in the sun.
I am dying to own a full-sized bottle. Sadly, the sample Dad got me was of a limited edition re-release of the 1998 original. Une Fleur de Chanel is now discontinued and goes for $400 per bottle. If only I would’ve had better taste in high school.

A Whiter Shade of Pale—Procol Harum
If I have any tears in me, this song will squeeze’m out.
